Can I request a blood test?

I'm going to the docs tomorrow to hopefully either confirm or rule out a possible pregnancy. Without going into too much detail I had a very light strange period this month, now have several possible symptoms but not a positive result on a home test.
I want to find out one way or another within the next week due to several reasons and don't want to have to wait and see if I miss my next period.
Can i request that I have a blood test to find out either as well as or instead of them testing me the usual way?

I would have thought if you were pregnant, your test would have been positive, as the pregnancy hormone would be in your system.

It can't hurt to see your GP and requests tests, if you feel that would confirm things.
You can request one though I guess it depends on their capacity (eg nurses in and whether they are tied up in clinics or with flujabs or appointments etc...) and usual procedure as to whether they will agree, the reason you need to know so urgently could also help or hinder.

What is the usual procedure for blood tests at the surgery? Does the doctor do them, do nurses do them as needed or would you have to make a separate appointment for a blood test?

Would a urine test not show it up on a bought test or at the doctors or family planning clinic or some pharmacies do pregnancy tests if you take a sample in.
you can ask, wether they wil do it is up to them really.

Sorry, didn't see the bit about the home test.
I doubt whether you'd get a blood test done at short notice tigwig. It's mostly left up to practice nurses to do that job now, and not all surgeries have one there every day. Even if yours has, i imagine you'd have to make an appointment and move along the queue like everyone else - unless you went privately.
Best bet's to do another home pregnancy test, or take a sample into a chemist's. You'll get a definite result from them in about an hour, depending on how busy they are.
NHS docs can do without the expense of pregnancy testing everytime people cohabitate.

Go to chemist & buy a pregnancy test kit & DIY. Since you can manage the sex it shouldn't be toooo difficult for you.

When I've had blood tests in the past I just go to the hospital, which I happen to live next door to and wait to have one done the same day.
Terambulan whats the need for the sarcastic comment? If you read the question properly you will see I have done a test myself (yes I could manage it) and it was negative however I still would like this confirming by a doctor for reasons which are confidential to me. If you don't have a constructive answer then don't bother wasting your time or mine.
