Could someone please advise a clueless lady driver how much it would cost to supply and fit something called a 'camshaft timing belt' to my Ford Mondeo?

Any advice on approximate cost very welcome.

200 to 300 depending on if you take it to a back street garage or main dealer.

Its good practice to have the pulleys and tensioners changed at the same time.

Thank you.

That's a lot more than I expected.
If its just the belt it may not be as much, however if you have been told to have it done, do it immediately, if it snaps it will cost you an awful lot more and I do mean an awful lot.
Yes, the sooner the better. My friend was warned about his but he didn't get it replaced. A couple of months later the belt broke and ruined the engine - ended up scrapping the car because of how much it would cost to fix.
if the belt has to be changed just as a routine,ie the service records advise it should, then a smaller garage would be around 150 at the most including the cost of the belt and the tensioners (always replace these as they are peanuts and can fail easier than the belts) to many garages this job is so commom it wont take long at all,ask around for someone reputable, don't bother going main dealer as they'll charge a fortune
Just so that you know my trusty Haynes manual for the Mondeo, specifies replacing the cambelt at every 80,000 miles or 5 years (whichever occurs first).

There is a footnote stating that for vehicles subject to intensive use (mainly short stop-start driving), these figures should be reduced to 30,000 miles or 3 years.

As others have said, severe engine damage will occur, should the belt break.
just check you have got a belt in there, i no the v6 models have a chain
the 2.0 and 2.4 duratorq diesel engines are also chain, if its a belt its probably one of the zetec petrol engines you have or the older 1.8 or 2.0 diesel engine
