2 out of our 3 daughters (aged 8 and 4) came home today with letters from the Young Gifted and Talented team stating they had been identified etc and a website for them to register on. I have no idea what they are gifted at (I suspect maths) because the school hasn't bothered to tell us!!??

Should they be given an IEP? Are they expected to do extra work or extended activities? I have had a quick look at the YG&T Learner Acadamy and I can't quite get what it is for, are there activities on there for them to do online?

You've hit the nail on the head - the school should be giving you clear advice about what's going on. Phone and ask.
Yes they should have an IEP and be the special needs register.
