Hi, I hope someone can shed some light on this as it is driving me insane ! I have fitted a ceiling fan/light in my conservatory and after a few hours of the fan being turned on it has stopped working. I got the electrician back to look at it and he informed me that no power was going into the fan? The fuse connected to the electrical circuit had not blown as the light was still working but the fan was dead. I took it back to the shop, got a replacement and again the same thing happened and again took it back and so on, this morning the third fan that has been installed has gone again? Why does this keep happening ?? I have since bought a competely different fan from a different store to see if the same happens, but before i get it installed i require extra advice ?? any welcome thanks

get a competant electrician
Buy a new fan. lol.
Exactly. Sounds as though there's a fault to the wiring of the actual fan.
If, you have a seperate switch to turn the lights on from that which serves the fan, it's entirely possible, though unlikely that the fan switch is on a different circuit, served by a different fuse. At least here in the U.S., most fan/light combos are wired seperately and have a completely seperate wire runng from the switches to each...

Additionally, if that is the case, you may want to think about replacing the on/off wall switch...

Hi Clanad, This particular fan was designed to be wired with just one feed with one fuse as the light and fan was connected together, my electrician split the wires and wired each separately having a switch for each but still using the one fuse from the original feed. After the second fan died, i presumed it that obvously the fan is not meant to be wired in this way with a double switch so when i replaced it with the third, i hired a new electrician. He wired it ( using the original feed) with a single fused switch (so the circuit now has two fuses) and wired it to the exact spec in the wiring diagram but after 30 mins the fan stopped again but again the light still works ? What i am struggling to understand is, if there is a problem with the wiring that the fuse does not blow and instead the motor for the fan fails ? I thought thats what the fuse was designed to do, break the circuit before damage occurs to the component ? It has to be a problem with the wiring as it is too much of a coinsidence to have 3 fans die all the same way ? HELP !
Hi James could be a overheat sensor in the unit they can be very sensitive or sometimes a small in line glass fuse could have gone HTH Tez
