My daughter is now 4 and still needs a pull up/nappy for bed. I have cut her milk down and started giving her it straight after tea instead of just before bed. She has a star chart (with no stars!!) and the potty is in her room right next to her bed. I have said I will buy her her fave Peppa Pig toy if she stops weeing but all this makes no difference whatsoever. This has worried me in the past as well but now she is 4 I just think she should be able to do it now. Even on a morning when she wakes she doesn't bother to go on the potty I mean why bother getting out of bed when you can just wee in a pull up?! Should I get tough and just let her wet the bed and see if that works or forget it for now? My only worry if I do get tough is if she doesn't stop wetting after several weeks I couldn't go on like that for ever! Any ideas?

I thought my son would be in nappies forever but he was finally dry during the day when he was 3. in the mornings his nappy was wet and warm, so he'd only just filled it. then I thought, "stuff this" and did away with the night time nappies. he had about 2 or 2 accidents.. result!

I really don't think your daughter still needs milk after dinner time. can't she have a small yoghurt instead?

if you go for removing the nappy, don't go back. just get rid of them. try not to make a fuss if she has an accident, and make a huge fuss (rewards are highly acceptable!) when she goes through the night. and good luck!
hi my son is 3 and is now out of nappies day and night. but it was hard work. ditch the pull ups, from now on its knickers or nothing. i gave my son a drink about an hour before he went to bed and then no more. before i took him up i made sure he had a wee. he used to say i dont need it but i wouldnt let him go up till he done one. i used a water proof sheet on his bed to cover his mattress. the first night he woke up wet in the night so i just changed him and his bed, sat him on potty then put him bk to bed, he would then also wake up wet at 7 too. but then gradually the wetin in the night stopped and he would call me and tell me he needs a wee. it takes time and loads of accidents but dont go bk to pull ups as you will confuse her. they will get there if you stick to the routine. mine is 3 now and wakes uup sits on his potty and gets bk into bed on his own now which is how your daughter will be soon.
my daughter (now aged 25) was dry in the day at 22 months but every morning her nappy was soaking wet. I gave up waiting for a 'dry night' and on on the night of her 2nd birthday told her she was a big girl now and no nappies were needed, The next day she was dry the bed was dry and we never looked back. The nappy was just licence to use it. So I am in total agreement, dump the pull ups.

My son, (now aged 23) was dry day and night at 2 years old also but once he was dry in the day he started having dry nights so I just stopped with the nappies. Every child is different but it does sound like your little one is using the nappy because it is there.

good luck.

thanks for the answers I am going to wait until the school hols then ditch the pull ups!
hiya

i wouldnt worry too much, it depends on each individual child, i have 2 children, my first was in pull ups till about 5 or 6 my second never needed them!! she was really good never once wet the bed till this day,

give her her last drink for the day about 1-2 hours before bed time and take her to the toilet or potty before bed.

you can buy those waterproof sheets for the bed just incase of accidents,

try bigging it up that she is a really big and clever girl with no nappy and tell her how grown up she is! and slowly day by day reduce it.
haha i just re-read that!! my first was only in pull ups at night till she was 5-6 lol no all day long!! x

Hi onlyme! How did you stop using the pull ups on a night? Did she suddenly stop weeing at the age of 5/6 (through the night) or did you take them off her? I plan to stop using pull ups in the school hols but I am worried if she isn't ready she will just keep on wetting the bed continuously!
My daughter has been dry day and night from the age of 2. i found that at night if you take them to the toilet just before you go to bed (while they are asleep) and tell them to wee then they usually do. they don't wake up and should stay dry all night...... then reward with the chart.
Hope this helps
take her out to pick her own special night time underwear and say if she wets they cant be replaced as they are special and need to be looked after... also for every night she is dry give her a big cuddle in the morning and make a fuss of her if she manages a week a really special treat
