Sounds like a mixture of PTSD and denial. Denial is a fairly natural thing, keeping rooms the same, keeping hold of things etc, for a while at least whilst in an adjustment phase. More a cause for concern if it continues indefinately.
I dont know the age of theperson the post is about, but if it is an older person this can be a sign of memory loss, or dementia in its earlier stages.
What ever the reason he should see his GP to see what is going on and what can be done to help.
God luck If you need any more info let us know,
Just one thing puzzling me if you dont mind , I agree with the first two responses to a point, but you referred to this person as a client? If you are the counsellor are you not fully trained up? If not perhaps you should place this person with someone more experienced in grief counselling. Forgive me if I have misinterpreted your query.
This sounds awful, but why are you putting this case on this forum? Is it Chain Saw Massacre or something youre asking about?
Hmm, its the wrong time of year for El Da de los Muertos

If this is a real situation, then they may be suffering from prolonged complicated grief in which case they will need profesional help.

Mamyalynne,

It is common practice in healthcare now for patients to be referred as clients. It took me a while to get used to it (I'm a nurse).
Yeh but, no but, Foodluva - the point is you didn't come to AB to diagose your clients / patients! I'm with Mamy on this one....hooky counselling or what?
A very sad situation of a 'time-warp'. Sounds as though the person has gone thru a terrible tragedy of losing their family.
