Why wont the acrylic harden on my false nails?

I always have acrylic nails applied by a nail technician and each time i convince myself that im sure i could do them myself. I bought all the stuff needed, followed some instructions i downloaded off the internet but when i came to applying the acrylic it would not harden. Could anybody tell me why this has happened. When taking it off it was like a rubbery jelly texture. Thanks

Have you applied the acrylic too thick? Or mixed the consistency wrongly? Normally the opposite applies and it hardens too quickly.
