Did they explain everything to you at your preop check then Ice , the op , and how long you will be in , what to expect as regards tubes ans things ? What time do you have to be at the hospital on the day hun ?

Hello mamma hun. 7.30 a.m. on Thursday, but that's because i want to have another chat with the anaesthetist. Everything was explained in detail, and I went for a cup of tea with the surgeon! I could be in for 6-7 days, but if everything goes well, could be out as soon as Sunday night or Monday morning, which'd suit me just fine! It seems things've changed since "the old days", when you heard all the horror stories. It's still a major op, but after the first day, I won't be on any drips for painkillers. They'll just give me injections and/or tablets, so that I'm more free to move around. I'm having a vertical cut though, as they're going to check everything above the affected area, just to make sure things are alright. I sure hope so!!

Glad you had a good chat about it , and ooooo , tea with the surgeon eh. They do tend to get you out of bed as soon as these days and home in 3 or 4 days if they can . A major op years ago would have meant a 14 day stay , but I must say I think it's a bit early to send someone home so early now , especially if they are going to have to cook for themselves , and climb stairs , do necessary things round the house that can't be left......they say no lifting ...oh yeh...

You are so right bigmamma. It might not be a great place to stay but you cant overdo things in hospital. When I had a hysterectomy, and later back surgery, I had no complaints about how long I was in. I had good support from Mr R and friends re my boys.

You can tackle virtually nothing at first after major ops like this but you always think you can do just that little thing and it wont matter. Well, it does.

That's very true, BM. I'm very fortunate that I won't have to do anything when I get back home, and the sooner I get out of that place the better, what with all the MRSA around these days. I was talking to two ladies who're going in for similar things. One was 32, so that made me feel slightly less of a freak, and the other lady was older, but we were all commiserating. Then the older person said that she'd be probably staying in longer anyway, as she lived on her own, and wouldn't be able to manage until something'd been sorted out for her. Bless. I almost offered to bring her home with me!!
