Whats with this big thing about buying presents for your wife/partner. How many couples have bought presents for each other and then separated/divorced the same year. I find it strange that couples who make a big play of kissing on doorsteps etc...dont make it till the end. Almost all of them i presume. So what was the point of all those presents. Could you not give a better present like honour your committment...till death do us part.

We used to really enjoy kissing goodnight on the door step & are still together after 41 years. We also still buy each other presents becuase we like to, not just out of habit. I agree about 'the till death us do part' thing, but it doesn't always work out for some. Are you having a bad time Dom - if so, chin up!

No Smudge, i just feel frustated when people in the office ask what you getting the wife and then they claim they have got these fabulous things for their present partner, having just been separated from their 3rd spouse. The futility of these actions is lost on them. It is much easier getting presents than staying together.

Based on what observations? Have you heard of cause and effect?

Buying Presents <=> Divorce ??

Question Author
based on the following observation. 2 in 5 marriages end in divorce. those 2 in 5 regularly buy their partners presents. Those 2 in 5 probably buy their partner a present in the same year that they separate. Those 2 in 5 are buying presents for their partner in the last year that they are together for the sake if it and out of sheer habit and not because they actually love the person. Serial adulterers i reckon do the same
well yes, but I bet that two others, at least, out of those 5 also buy their spouse a gift, so there is no correlation. I agree that "till death us do part" is a wee bit harder than buying socks but there's no reason that you can't have both!! (no I didn't get Mr W socks for christmas, anfd no I am not telling what i did get)
I think you're looking into things too deeply Dom. Does it really matter who buys what & for whom?

me been dipping into the jam jar for a meer 14 years. but its for keeps.
You are only a spring chicken the Dom! Many happy years yet to be had then.
I absolutley love spoiling my fella - its great. I buy him presents all year round because I love him and I know it will make him happy because he wants what ever I buy.  Although we have only been together 3 years we are more in love now than ever b4 and I apologise if I am being silly but I really don't understand why presents and divorce go together?.

My decree nisi arrived in the post two days after my 35th birthday. Now that was a present! :-)

Curses. I meant absolute!

Some people don't take love seriously, Dom, and it doesn't work out for them.  But as long as it works out for YOU, that's all you have to worry about.  I hope it works out for you, and I hope you love someone enough to give them a gift, and that they love you enough to give you a gift too.  Hang in there.

Dom Tuk    Are you trying to get out of buying your lady a gift this Christmas ??
