Why am I so thirsty?

I just can't stop drinking, so much so that I have gone off water which is weird! This means I am going to the loo about 3 times a night. I also can't stop eating (mainly chocolate), I feel really lethargic and have lost a bit of weight. Although very busy with work I don't feel stressed or anything. Am I drinking and going to the loo lots because I'm eating the sugary chocolate or am I eating the chocolate because I'm lacking energy?! Any clues?!

First thing that springs to mind is - have you been tested for diabetes? Simple test at GP's or you may be able to get an over the counter kit.
Not being alarmist, but it does need to be eliminated as a cause of symptoms.
I would suggest that you get yourself checked out for diabetes. These are classic symptoms and you may be suffering with not being able to produce insulin. Make an appointment at your local GP or hospital for a blood test

Thank you guys, it was at the back of my mind but I thought I might be worrying about nothing. Hopefully I am but worth getting it checked out I guess :-)
I agree with the others Jayla. Get yourself tested or buy self testing kit. Boots and Lloyds etc sell them for just 4.99. Also remember chocolate will make you thirsty so it could be that.

Thanks for the advice Josie.
Jayla - any news?
(mind you, I've just seen you only posted today! Please let us know)
If you go into Lloyds chemist they'll do you a test for free.
Sorry but it does sound a clasic case of diabetes - my husband had all the same symptoms before he was diagnosed. Hope you get on ok - hubby's been better health wise since his sugar levels were sorted out.

I've booked a doctors appointment for next week, in the meantime, if I get a chance I'll go to Lloyds for the free test.
Thanks all.
I meant it about letting us know. I'm diabetic, see :)
It's not great but it's do-able.

And if anyone says to you that Steve Redgrave can win a Gold Medal at the Olympics and he has diabetes, just smile. It's ok to here the first 34,527,935 times. And I never exaggerate ;)
ok to *hear*!

JamSam, you asked me to let you know how I got on at the Drs. Although I knew it was a possibility I was pretty shocked to find out it was diabetes...it's type 1...all a bit scary and lots to get my head around, so much to learn and take in but I'm determined to remain positive and not let it affect my life too much. How do you find it?
Jayla, um honestly? It's rubbish but it is do-able. It does change your life (lots of professionals say it needn't) I'd love to give you my email address but don't know how without everyone seeing it.
Are you on facebook?
Question Author
