cars in ireland are quite a bit more expensive than over here,so there is your answer,we sold a couple of mercs to a guy from ireland only last month.
Are you advertising your car for sale?

If so, where is it advertised? Are the calls from Northern Ireland or the Republic?
Question Author
yes my car is for sale it is on a web site caleed piston heads, where lots of people have their cars advertised. they were calling from northern ireland
It could be a con the way it normally goes is like this:-

The person agrees to buy your car without seeing it. They pay by cheque and instruct you to bank the cheque once the cheque has cleared into your account they will arrange to collect the car (or they may make shipping arrangements for the car).
Some time later, your bank will advise you that the cheque was drawn against a fraudulent account and take the money back. This scam is normally perpetrated from main land Europe.

When I first heard about this scam, I thought that the bank should stand the loss, having cleared the cheque but no chance.
