Pigs tails fixings
4 Answers
last month in a previous question.. Paul55 mentioned pigs tails for fixing heavy items to a wall... what exactly are they - are they a type of rawlplug as no one knows what I'm talking about - so if someone could describe them to me I would know what I'm looking for - nothing in screwfix direct under that name..

I've used them very successfully for fixing heavy items to cavity walls.

those types of plugs only fix into plaster board and would not hold a heavy items like a kitchen wall unit if it is a studded wall you need to fix to the vertical wood studs or horizontal brace noggins or if you can't because they are in in the wrong place you will have to insert horizontal 20mmwood bearers to the vertical studs at the apropriate heights and fix units to that HTH Tez
These fixings are strong enough to hold up kitchen units, I do it all the time, but I would only use the metal one's. You must also drill a small pilot hole first (say 5mm) to prevent the fixing from damaging the board. These fixings would not realy be sutable for fixing wide shelves where the load is pulling away from the wall rather than downwards like a cabinet os flat screen TV.
