Should I fill in a front door matwell? I want to put carpet tiles in hallway and they will be awkward to fit onto a matwell.

well personally i would fill it in but use something like wood to do it as you may want to remove it again at some point.
you dont say how deep it is if it is approx 20/25mm then clean it out then apply with brush 50/50 water /pva, mix 3 sharp sand with 1 cement + water/pva mix then fill to surrounding levels.
How much ?? mix it in the carpet well plus a little more (before you prime with pva) very carefully then into bucket HTH Tez
The doormat well is usually the place where you can get under your floor. If you fill it in, make sure you can get access in another place. Also, the mat-well is sunken in to allow the door to open without disturbing the mat.

Thanks for your help folks. The floor is wooden floorboards and underneath is the cellar, so there is already access to that so I don't need to keep the matwell for access. The front door has about 2.5 cm clearance so that's not a problem. The matwell is about 2.5 cm deep. I think the idea of filling it in with wood is best although for the time being I've put a grey carpet runner down in the hall.
