I took a valium when i had my coil taken out, it made me feel like i had a few alcoholic drinks, i was quite relaxed and not nervous, in fact it helped a great deal,my procedure was over quite quickly
They usually advise on the leaflet to take 5mg the night before and 10mg on the day - I should imagine that you will feel very relaxed.I have taken them in the past and they definately take the edge of your anxiety. You'll be able to get your treatment - better than getting knocked out or having to get falsers.Good Luck -you will be fine -promise you
BTW -I hate the dentist with a passion as well but its taken that bloody long to get re-registered I just slip a couple back my throat as well -hate the thought of falsers more lol
You'll feel relaxed and mellow.
It will make you feel very relaxed.

Don't drive when you have had the tablet - and try to get an early night, and sleep in if ytou can. Have an early night the next night as well, and if you can avoid driving the day after, be on the safe side.

I was so phobic of dentists i couldn't even get through the front door - forget up the stairs, in the room in the chair, and a dentist within touching distance!

This will help considerably - good luck!
You'll feel very relaxed but definitely don't drive for 24 hours after taking these tablets. Just get yourself home and try and have a good sleep. For 15 years I avoided going to a dentist because I had a bad experience with one. And when I did go for the first time in an emergency which I couldn't put off any longer , I couldn't believe why I'd delayed so long. I had an injection which wasn't very painful and no further suffering at all during the whole treatment. I walked out afterwards feeling rather like a limp rag because of the tension I'd been feeling, but realised with a huge relief that the anticipation had been far worse than the actual treatment. And now, believe it not, I go for a check-up every 6 months without the slightest tinge of nervousness. If you can just try practicing some relaxing techniques, letting your body go completely limp, this will also help you a great deal when you actually get into the dentist's chair.
why dont you pay for sedation injection in the arm 15.00 - it is great and you have to bring a person with you to bring you home I recommend it to anybody
Good answers here, and hope the Valium will help you overcome your fear! And a good, understanding dentist cannot be underestimated. I hope you find one that's right for you. If the practice you are registered with has more than one dentist, you can choose to see another if you are unhappy, and let them know that you are a nervous patient so they can place you with someone gentle.
And I must stress the importance of having a chaperone with you before, during and after you take the Valium. You never know what effect it is going to have on you, and common side-effects of loss of inhibition and memory loss do not sit well together! If necessary your chaperone might have to recount some things you said or did, like a good mate after a drunken night out ;)
So stay safe, and fingers crossed, a lovely trip to the dentist.
