morning sickness

im about 9- 10wks pregnant and really suffering with sickness morning noon and nite. i cant really eat and drink coz just makes me feel worse. im waking in the night to be sick aswell. ive also got really bad head all the time. can anybody give me any advice on what to do? or wot to try and eat and drink?

ive totally forgot that im pregnant coz i feel so ill, i cant seem to see the light at the end of the tunnel!

Firstly congratulations on being pregnant. About your head ache, it's probably because you are dehydrated, if you're being sick you're not keeping any fluids. So keep supping water, don't down any, I used a straw as it makes you sup little and often.

About eating, try not to think that you have to eat normally at the moment, if you feel sick, there isn't any point in eating a lot, so go for a little bit of whatever you fancy! Something plain like a jacket potato with a bit of butter or eat fruit. when you start keeping things down, your appetite will come back.

Don't forget to be taking your pregnancy supplements and not eating too late at night! Also try taking Gaviscon (safe in pregnancy) before you eat and then when you feel a little sick after. It may sttle you stomach before it has chance to feel sick!

ginger biscuits or cake used to help me when i felt sick ( recommended by midwife) like andrea said headaches could be dehydration, for later on i also found ,again midwife advice, that ice cream really helped with heartburn. hope all goes well and the sickness passes soon :-)
Just to add. If your are dehydrated and you start getting cramp 'Indian tonic water' is good as it contains Quinine and this is recommended by midwives. But yes like lorri said, ginger biscuits are good!

I found eating a dried cracker before I got up in the morning helped with my two pregnancies.
congrats confused gal. the gingernut biscuit remedy worked for me. give it a go. as for the headaches my gp said i had low blood presure so keep those feet up and drink plenty of fluids.

thanx for all your answers. i will try the ginger biscuits. when i eat fruit it comes back up straight away. im going to se the doc today to see if i can take anything. the other prob i have is i have irratable bowel syndrome and dont eat wheat which is in most things such as bread biscuits cakes all the bland foods that i fancy. if i do eat wheat it gives me diaheroa so its a no win situation. i have been nibbling on biscuits but gives me stomach ache and the runs. so really i cud do wiv something of the doctor.

wake yourself up about half an hour before you need to get up and eat whatever you can keep down (bananas worked for me) that means that hopefully your stomach will feel a bit better when you do get up.

Not much help if you cant keep anything down, but i fund it really helped those mornings when the nausea just knocked me sideways.

Oh, and if you can't eat biscuits (you poor girl) then you can get ginger tea easily in most shops.

If you get really bad you may have to be hospitalized to get some vital fluids and salts in to you, so I urge you to persevere with finding something that works, even if it is just sweet drinks and salty snacks!
I remember it well - and that was 18 years ago.

I felt so ill but found (strangely) that sipping ice cold diet coke would always settle my tummy!!
for the IBS try eating bran flakes or something with fibre. i used too with plenty of sugar. just be carefull of the dreaded piles.
There's nowhere enough quinine in tonic water to cure cramps. You need to get quinine tablets from the doctor for cramps. Eating foods high in zinc and magnesium can help stop cramps.

Ginger is a natural antiemetic.

My trick for morning sickness was oranges. Not to est them but to smell them. I had them in my pocket all the time. It was one of the only smells that didnt make me vomit. That way I felt fresh enough to actually eat.

Sweet fioods are supposed to make the nausea worse so maybe chewing on a bit of dried or crystal ginger might be better. When you do eat make sure you eat some complex carbs to give you energy. The less energy you have the sicker you will feel.

Dairy is a big trigger as are fatty foods so avoid these.

try toast (no butter) wheatabix, shreddies, mashed potates
try to avoid rich foods
Flat lemonade tends to help morning sickness well it worked for me and 4 of my friends
You can get wheat and gluten free pasta, it's plain for you. Not sure how it tastes though, but try the organic wheat free isle in a supermarket or health shop.

Don't worry honey, keep drinking though!
I was like this too and ended up being prescribed an antisickness tablet called Avomine which worked wonders! I would just need one a day even though I was able to take up to three if needed. This along with eating little and often and drinking plenty of fluids really helped the sickness and the headaches. I havent been taking them for a little while now and although Im still getting sickness and headaches, it isnt as bad as it was before!

As soon as you see your baby on the scan you will definately forget the sickness and feel pregnant again!
