Does anyone know how to rip an audio CD (to MP3) so that it comes out as one big file rather than separate tracks?

your ripper should have a setting to identify breaks between tracks ... change the setting to a gap of 5 mins ... and you'll get one long track with no breaks

alternatively if you only have "auto"

rip as usual ... then use MP3 Mate to join the tracks

Thanks for that - I'm using Nero 7 but I can't find the option you described. Can you recommend a particular programme?

xillisoft is the one I use
but google cd ripper + free
and you should find a freebie without much effort

I actually came across one searching another forum - Audiograbber - which is free and works perfectly (with the right instructions). Thanks for your help ACtheTROLL.
iTunes can handle this easily.
