Is it possible to literally die of boredom?

I rather suspect that your ennui would be overcome by hunger or thirst before that happened!

Certainly people can 'give up' on life and die as a result, but that's not quite the same as being bored to death, I don't think.
I came very close to it whilst watching Eastenders. However, I saved myself several months ago and used the 'off' button. Life has been good since, I'm so glad I did it.
There was a story doing the rounds a while back involving a film of someone sleeping. That's all the film was, just watching someone sleep, however at one point in the film the person sleeping turned over... and a man in the audience had a heart attact.

I think that's as close as I can think of to being bored to death!

(How true this story is I have no idea).
