Gardeners often quote a saying along the following lines:
For an hour of pleasure,a bottle of wine.
For a year of pleasure,a marriage.
For a lifetime of pleasure, a garden.

Does anyone know the actual saying and by whom?

A similar proverb in Chinese is:

"If you want 1 year of prosperity, grow grain. If you want 10 years of prosperity, grow trees. If you want 100 years of prosperity, grow people".
