???????????

From 48p for a letter up to 20g

I don't see where 77p comes in at all for letters. Printed papers, yes. Letters no
dzug - it is international postage. 77p fsmall package up to 100 gms. Takes forever though.

20gm is a teeny letter. But you are quite correct - 48p for a teeny letter. :)
Um yes Ethel. I think we have different views on what a letter is rather than on what the rates are (inserts big smilie.....).

I don't get this.

From Belfast to Dublin cannot be airmail as the mail either goes down on the train or by van. It certainly doesn't go by air!

Are you sure on your answers?
It should just be whatever the normal post in Ireland is - but because politics has decreed otherwise, I'd get someone to post it for you from the other side of the fake border.
The same as if it were being sent to England - take it into the post office if you are not sure.
The Royal Mail site states surface mail can not be used in Europe, it has to be airmail and the prices are:

10g 48p
20g 48p
40g 69p
60g 90p
80g 1.10
100g 1.31
120g 1.52

NCOT,

Sorry, but I don't live close to the border

wc,

People I ask tell me this, but I can't get a definitive answer to this from an official source

TCL,

As I've previously said, mail from Belfast to Dublin DOES NOT go by air!

I'm still no nearer to getting a clear and comprehensive resolution to my query!
I see that An Post charges the same for deliveries within Ireland or outwith to Ulster.

If you do find out, let us know.
It may not get sent by air but it's charged the same rate as if it was.

It's charged the same as if you were sending it to France, Germany, etc. - ie more than if you were sending it to England or Scotland.

It's a bit silly because An Post charges the same rates to send from the Republic throughout Ireland

Well I took the suggestion of going into the post office and those who said it would cost me 48p were correct!

It doesn't go airmail, it goes surface, but is charged at the so called airmail rates because for a letter this is the cheapest international charge.

Anyway, the letter's gone now, and I'm 48p worse off!!!
