I have an implant. I can honestly tell you that he most painful thing was paying the bill!
I took three visits to the specialist including the surgery hour. I thought it was worth the expediure as I only had a problem with a specific tooth and jaw above it ( I had a horribly done root canal when pregnant ) everything else ok.

My friends mum who is a smoker and a drinker ( lots ) had a few done and they have given her gyp. So she has a different view of them from me. Did you have a specific worry?

No i dont have a specific worry, just i were hoping to get a bridge but my gap is too big so an implant was suggested. I thought it sounded very painful. Friends tell me not to mess cus it might cause more problems.
A girlfriend has a bridge in the same area, that I have the implant - she says if she had known how much messing about there was in the aftercare ( she is meticulous about cleaning it ) she would have really considered the implant more seriously.
Hi Daw35y,
Firstly i'd like to say I personally don't have any implants.
Importantly you must consider that any dental restoration can not be regarded as permanent, even implants.
However it is a fact that assuming an individual is suitable for implants that they provide the longest lasting restoration currently though to be over 20 years and perhaps much longer.
Implants do need to be maintained abnd cleaned like ordinary teeth, but assuming you don't smoke their maintenance is easier than most other dental restorations.
They are however costly, but if you are able to afford them now, then you will save money long term, because other restorations will require more frequent placement.
If you have any further questions please ask.
