Antibiotics and dentist

I am posting this in case it helps someone to avoid an un-necessary tooth extraction.
When I was a teenager and later, dentists didn't bother to save my decayed teeth by using fillings, but just extracted them.
What with that and a likng for sweet drinks, I ended up as an OAP with only two original back molars for chewing. These were on the LH side of my mouth.
When the lower tooth got so bad it had to be extracted.
I had no choice but to pay £5100 for two dental implants from a private dentist.
(I could not get on the panel of a NHS dentist where I live.
A year later the real tooth started to ache terribly and I had to adopt a diet of soft foods and soup only.
My dentist prescribed 21 Amoxicillin tablets to be taken 3 times a day AND THE PAIN WENT.
I can now chew foods like steak and nuts easily.
In view of the success of the previous implants, I am going to save up for two more.

I lost my last but one tooth c 20 years ago and have managed with just one molar and dentures ever since. This week I had a filling, the firrt for 20 years and the tooth will probably see me out.
Cost £35 for a temporary filling - to see if it could be saved - and £40 for a permanent filling.
Fortunately things have changed, I have had a few of my teeth saved by fillings but also have a few gaps. Hopefully I can hang on to the rest. I'm quite attatched to my remaining teeth and I'm hopingto keep it that way.
Wish I was as "lucky". Got to have some teeth out at the hospital because I have to be put out (argh), terrified of dentists etc but no choice. However I've tried two lots of amoxicillin but both times had allergic reaction so can't take it unfortunately. I had hoped it would help to fight the infection. Taking paracetomol when I can but have horrendous pain which has gone on for a week now and really bad tonight...if only I'd looked after my teeth. Don;'t know what I'm going to do as was on referred to hospital this week - wish I could have the amoxicillin just to try and fell the infection at least!
No need to pay £5k again robert, pop your postcode in here and find your nearest NHS dentist. There are more than there used to be.
