I am looking for a first car since I am due to pass by test in a few months..

I have a budget of 1,350 or there-abouts.
My insurance is sorted but I don't want it to be too expensive.

Any ideas on what I should choose??

Just look around your local used car dealers. You will be able to find quite a few oldish trade-ins for around 800-1200 that will be good reliable cars that should keep going for several years with minimal maintenance costs.
I got a 1989 BMW 525i SE Auto a few years ago for 900.
Immaculate condition, and in nearly three years, it has only required parts costing about 160 in total. It is a dream to drive.
The only problem I've had is (probably jealous) people making comments about drug dealers and/or pimps.....
Good small cars...Golf, Polo, Fiesta, Clio, Corsa...
I had a peugeot 205 diesel. I had it for 3 years. Infact 300,000 miles when I sold it. Small and very economic. I paid 500 for it. Have a look in the local paper and get a mechanic to go with you to check it over when you buy it
Look at www.parkers.co.uk to see what used cars are worth. This will give you an idea as to whether people are asking too much. People usually advertise 200-400 more than they are willing to accept so you can always make an offer.
My tip to you if you want a V.W Polo is to look at a Seat Ibiza, they are the same car with different badges. You will get a much newer Ibiza with a higher spec than a Polo for the same money and much cheaper to insure
Fiesta's are reliable and cheap to fix.

PS Avoid Renault Clios. Everyone I know that owns a Renault it costs them a fortune.
