Is it just me or do others find it really annoying when during the pre-movie menu appearing on the screen of a DVD that it shows short clips of the best bits in the actual film? I know it's possible to skip it but sometimes this catches you out. This happens especially in horror flicks and action films where the element of surprise is usually crucial to the plot.

TV programmes that do this annoy me as well.
Battlestar Galactica shows brief snippets of the upcoming programme in the opening titles. Why?

The BBC has the annoying habit of showing an ad for the program that they're about to show. Why?

And what's with the preview of the next episode they show at the end? I don't want it spoilt so I switch off. I want the story to be a surprise when I actually watch the next episode. B@st@rds.

I'm sure TV companies hate their viewers.

Your absolutely right "Llamatron". It seems that nowadays everything media-based has to be rush rush so the makers of movies and programmes think that a story may not hold our interest if they don't show you action or snippets of the action in a film just before you're going to watch it.
I don't think T.V. companies or movie producers hate their viewers but they're pooping their pants in fear that they might lose some custom or money.
They think we're so ******** we'll wander off and get lost if they don't show them.
Likewise, "Previously on..." If we're so dim-witted we can't remember what happened last week, how did we manage to find the on switch?
Aaaarrrggghhh!!! The curse of the eckless again!
Yep. In total agreemnet. One of the worst was when Buffy 'died'. All during the week leading up to that episode, they showed the scene with her tombstone on it.

Also is that bloke who comes on before Sky Movies to tell you all about the film. How to ruin a film/programme in one easy lesson? Watch Sky.

Another annoyance is if you've recorded a programme from the night before, you can guarantee that your radio breakfast presenter watched it and tells you what happened.
