Does anybody know why Low energy bulbs should not be used with Timers?

I have used them in the past with ordinary light bulbs but have just replaced all of our bulbs with the low energy ones which have a picture on the back of the box which refers to them not being used with Timers.

Low energy bulbs are fluorescent which have use high power to start them up - this can produce a surge which can damage electronic components in electronic timers.

Thanks for that woodchopper.
I use low energy bulbs with timers and have never had a problem. There was nothing on my boxes saying not to use them with timers. There was, though a warning not to use them with dimmer switches.
