Quartier Pigalle is the old red-light district of Paris named after the sculptor Jean-Baptiste Pigall. The soldiers in WW2 called it Pig Alley.
It's a mixure of theatres ,artists,the Moulin Rouge,restaurants and ladies of the night but is now becoming upmarket and property in that area is very expensive .Very chic and villagey place to live.
It's also the name of a restaurant come forties style caberet club in Londons Picadilly.
