I just read Gary Baldy's question and wondered what you all think about Capital Punishment.

If DNA has been used AND it is 110% certain that the accused done it, then, yes and asap after the verdict.

One lenght of hemp (rope to all you civvies) = 10 max. (And it's re-usable).

Walk from court room to gallows= 30 mins (20 mins to allow condemed to reflect on his crimes and recieved absolution from whichever God they worship).

chances of condemmed reoffending=nil.

So johnlambert you are against capital punishment because you can never be 110% or even 1,000% certain that the accused done it. Killing is wrong, period.
Well, I hope so Lonnie - I like to think of all ABers as friends. Not that I always agree with my friends opinions, though :-)
Of course, Lonnie!
Some time ago, I was a member of the jury at the Old Bailey. It is a very different case condemning a person when the judge informs you that if there is the slightest doubt, then you must judge the person innocent although you may feel in your heart that the person is guilty.

Trish - even although this was not as serious. My husband was on the jury re drug dealing at T in the Park. The polis caught the guy red handed as they were undercover. However because the polis couldnt get their stories right and it was as obvious as the nose on your face the guy was dealing they had to find him not guilty. My husband was foreman of the jury and when he said not guilty (in Scotland it could have been not proven which casts doubt at least) the guy gave him the thumbs up.If the Polis cant even get their stories right what chance is there? So I know where you are coming from.

I've received a letter to say I am on the Jury Panel - I cant do it so if I get the chap on the door saying I am on Jury Duty then I shall suddenly feel very ill (seriously).

the answer is simple one jury to decide guilty or innocent and another jury to decide if a death penalty would be for the greater good
I think capital punishment should be brought back to the UK!, I also believe we should look at our sentencing laws and make them harsher, and put prisons back to being prisons instead of holiday camps. Take away all privileges and make criminals do HARD TIME
