Hi Lisa, you could try the General Registry Office for that area, all births, marriages and deaths should be registed with them.
Oh yes and there will probably be a fee!
You can search the death indexesor free on Ancestry.co.uk the years between 1984-2003 are searchable by name, before this you have to look at each quarter for each year.

It won't give address but will give full name and age at death and date of birth so if you know the date of birth, you can cross check. If it is a common name though there are likely to be lots.

Thanks for your replies...unfortunately I suspect he died this year...probably within the last 6 months so this makes it a little harder, I'll keep trying though.

In that case, you could try the deaths section of the newspaper local to that area, there would most likely have been a death notice posted.

Our local paper has births deaths and marriage announcements searchable online - maybe this one does too.
The General Register Office website indicates that the nearest register office is in Colchester. Unfortunately, the link to get the details (from the Essex County Council website) isn't working at the moment. That might just be because their server is down for maintenance overnight. You might have better luck:
http://www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/deaths/howdo ifindmylocalregisteroffice/

However, my copy of the Colchester Yellow Pages (which is about 3 years old) states that there's an office in Clacton, so it might be worth trying this number: 01255 421178.

The Colchester office number is shown as 01206 572926 or 01206 574900.
