I did look at the website , before posting the question - which says -

//The Eatwell Guide recommends that people should aim to drink 6 to 8 cups or glasses of fluid a day. Water, lower-fat milk and sugar-free drinks, including tea and coffee, all count.//

6-8 cups or glasses

Yes but what size cups/ glasses ?

I recommend the large wine glass or pint tumbler as a measure, you can always eject any over-consumption in the course of a day.

There is to fluid in food, too, that counts.

As long as I don't feel thirsty,my pee is light coloured and doesn't smell I don't worry about it.

If you sweat a lot you need more fluids to compensate.

My practice is to simply drink when you're thirsty.

I rarely feel thirsty and have to force myself to drink. My breakfast mug of tea lasts me until about 2pm and gets heated up in the microwave every time I decide to have a mouthful.  My eldest son is worse than me and doesn't drink all day once he's drank his breakfast cup of tea.  Then he wonders why he ends up in hospital in agony with kidney stones.
