If I wrote to my bank and informed them that basically they were not fit for purpose and threaten to sue them – I would think it quite reasonable that they told me to sling my hook and look elsewhere for banking facilities.

Why the hell doe this complete fool think he should be treated differently – this bank need to appoint me as CEO for a day (I would do it for free), and publically tell the fool a few home truths and close all his accounts.

OK Hymie,

The CEO of Coutts bank disclosed confidential information about a customer's personal bank account to a press reporter.Would you be happy if your bank manager betrayed all customer confidentiality regarding your personal banking details to a third party. Yes or No?

1985 - I was buying a house at £65k and said that the mortgage only went up to £60k ( so bring the price down)

and the estate agent - later bankrupt and forced to resign from the city council said - - - oh that doesnt matter you have more than that in your savings account !

so a lot of us have lived thro this sort of thing

Coutts de-banked Farage because he did not have £3 million his account (the minimum balance required), as noted in their published report (Farage denied this).

If Coutts debanked me claiming that I did not have £3 million in my account, and I publically announced that I did have more than £3 million in the account – I would be more than happy for Coutts to show a press reporter my account details showing that they were lying, and I was telling the truth.

Perhaps Mr Farage was disinclined to have to disclose his financial affairs to a journalist in order to underline his integrity.

I get that, I would feel exactly the same.

And so would you if you hadn't painted yourself into another debate corner, where refusing to admit you are wrong is more important than acknowledging a few basic truths about right and wrong.

I wish I could change the title of this thread.  It's horrible.

Hymie, //Coutts de-banked Farage because he did not have £3 million his account (the minimum balance required)//

That's not true.   Coutts requires that you have at least £1m in investments or borrowing, or £3m in savings.  Apart from that, Mr Farage had been a customer for years and eventually, quite rightly, received an apology from the bank.  You're like a dog with a bone with this.  This was a thorougly disgraceful episode that brought shame and disrepute upon a previously highly regarded institution.  You must be the only person in the country who doesn't understand what happened.

What did the press reporter find out about Farage’s account with Coutts?

What press reporter?

retrocop posted //The CEO of Coutts bank disclosed confidential information about a customer's personal bank account to a press reporter.  Would you be happy if your bank manager betrayed all customer confidentiality regarding your personal banking details to a third party. Yes or No?//

So was there actually no disclosure, and if so what was the point of retrocop’s post?

22:12, so why did the CEO resign?

//Alison Rose, chief executive of Coutts’s parent company, NatWest Group, had briefed the BBC that Farage was being put on a “glide path” from his Coutts accounts to a generic NatWest account because he no longer met the criteria to qualify for Coutts’s exclusive services.//

Hi me

People are so rude to you. I thought it was agreed that the CEO gave personal info during a pardee to a reporter.

I thought there was a report that said  so. and so she went.

I thought he did a service - a lorra lorra little people get debanked - and it stays - no other bank will take them on - UNLESS they have two in the first place ( F did).

I am currently fighting thro MLR ( money laundering) as a result of house buying. Selling no prob.....

Hymie, from the Guardian:  //An Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) report seen by the Guardian said that Alison Rose broke rules on two counts: first by revealing [to a reporter] that Farage had a banking relationship with its private bank, Coutts; and secondly by providing “misleading information” that led the BBC to believe the bank was closing his accounts for purely commercial reasons, linked to his wealth. //

What is it you don't understand about that?   You've been dragging this ridiculous argument round and round in circles for months but that changes nothing.  Mr Farage was treated shamefully, the bank was wrong, and apologised.  It's not difficult.
