bob. There are two solutions when considering ALL eight letters - but they both end up with MUMPS being 10169.

Thus u = 0, m = 1, p = 6 , t = 7, g = 8 and s = 9, with letters e and o being given by 2 and 3 (in any order)

Solution: Immediately, we have m = 1 (10,000's column)
Then t = 7 (units column) and followed by s = 9 (i000's column). The u is then forced to be a 0 (zero) followed by the result g = 8.

We only then have to make e + o + 1 = p with only 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6 to play with. Thereafter p = 6 is forced leaving 2 and 3 as the values for (e,o). QED
