I had correspondence via the Gov Pensions Office, from an Assurance company. They hadtaken over a Save and Prosper plan I had taken out years ago, and forgotten about. Afer sending various details ( minus the original policy), and after letters going back and forwards, they tell me that they have been unable to confirm my bank details electronically and have asked for a recent bank statement. I have googled the company, they seem genuine, if not great on Customer Service. I am now worried about identity fraud. The policy involved is for less than £1000. I am tempted to just leave it. Any advice is very much appreciated

If you confirm that the address to which they want you to send the documents is genuine, I would think that there is very little risk of identity theft – after all the bank statements could be lost in the post from the bank to you.

You could ask that they return the documents (by signed for delivery), especially if they are originals.

Why do they need your bank details - tell them to send you a crossed cheque.
