Here in Plymouth they test the nuclear attack warning system at Devonport Dockyard Naval Base every Monday morning.
I've just read that it's for personnel on the base, but can be heard for miles around.
We won't need mobile phone alerts...weve got the big boys ;)

Lol we used to have them growing up always scared the visitors but we were used to it.
I'm so old I can remember when they used to test the air raid sirens. We had one on the roof of our school but we were warned beforehand. Boy was it loud.

We had it growing up in the US also...the fear was real then. Hiding under our desks or in the corridors in school.
Our main threat growing up was from the IRA - the evacuations though were a bit of a giggle - we got to go to the Mess and have a fry up and skip school.
When your young you look on the positive side of everything looking back now my parents must have been on edge every time we were asked to move out for our safety
