I do not support huge wages for presenters BUT I do understand the market forces. I cannot stand Gary Lineker - so don't watch him. I enjoy the news programmes but don't want a presenter who cannot keep their arms or hands still and many of them look like they are reporting in semaphore. I like Huw Edwards because he is precise, unflappable, easily understood and keeps his hands on the desk or by his side. My choice would be keep him. However, he will be well aware that if the BBC got shot of him he would walk into a rival newsroom for mega-money.
Yes, Paul, I agree about newsreaders moving their arms around - the worst culprit is Gamal Fahnbulleh who sometimes presents the national news on ITV (he used to be on Sky). Just cannot keep his arms and hands still for more than 5 seconds!
Also the weather presenter Lucy Verasamy on ITV.
