It's a backward step for the human race.
(Mind you, there's been a lot of those of late.)
My mother once rouged-up the nipples of a garden-centre Michaelangeo-style statue - 'if they want pornography, they shall have it' - If it had been Florida, she probably would have been sentenced to life-labour and wearing a pink or orange suit.
We shouldn’t be tempted into an “art or porn” debate just because some Florida ignoramuses - of whatever political colour - have outed themselves. And got someone dismissed.
Quite right, Ich. When i was a small child 5/6 and upwards Dad used to take us to the art gallery in the middle of Lister Park in Bradford some Sundays. We loved the experience and I learned a lot about art without really trying. It helped me on my way in my choice of studies as I grew.

Gosh! How horrible! The steps up to the entrance were lined with statues of (I hesitate to say this for delicate ears) 'naked men!!!!!' Dad must have traumatised me! How could he expose me to all that horror!

'What a fuss about nothing,' in my more normal mode. I do hope the snowflake generation melts under the white heat of global warming that they are so keen to stop.
An exquisite painting entitled "Home for Lunch" was on display in a Miami art gallery.

It depicted three very naked black men sitting on a park bench. What was unusual was that the men on both ends of the bench had black penises, but the man in the middle had a pink penis.

Two women were staring at the painting, trying to figure it out. The gallery director noticed their confusion so he walked up to them and asked, "Can I help you with this painting?"

One of the women replied, "We were curious about the painting of the black men on the bench. Why does the man in the middle have a pink penis?"

The director replying that it represented the difference between black and white society, repression of Africans coming across the Pond and even hints of homosexuality to it, disgusting, pornographic and anti-Floridian values that this painting held.

A voice from behind, with a strong Scottish burr, interrupted, "I'm afraid you've misinterpreted the painting,"

The director asks, "And who are you to make such a comment?"

"I'm only the artist."

He continued on, "The three men are not Africans at all. They are Scottish coal miners from near Edinburgh, and the fellow in the middle went home for lunch."
Meanwhile...the Italians are totally mystified by this. The students and their former principal have been invited to visit by the director of the gallery where the statue of David is displayed. The principal is both honoured and flattered. I wonder if any students will be allowed?

What goes on in America is their problem. We just need to observe from a safe distance and try to avoid the same nonsense happening here.

Naomi is right to point out that similar things have been attempted here - ie parents interfering in education based on some nutty or antiquated belief about what constitutes pornography or suitable material.
