What is a computr ?

If you mean a computer then they COMPUTE. That is where the name comes from. Information is put in, calculations are done, and output come out.

Explaining how they work in simple terms is almost impossible.

It is mostly down the the CPU or "brain" of the computer.

Computer instructions are passed to it (millions a second) and the CPU does these instructions.

Most of the complexity of these instructions and the CPU are hidden from the user by adding a pretty user interface.

So when you open up a word processor for example, even before you type anything, the computer has already done a few million instructions.

I cannot explain much more without it starting to get very complex.
