why do some fundamentalist christians think that the harry potter books are the work of the dark lord himself? For years there have been books around with "supernatural" themes--bed nobs and broomsticks for example--but HP books seems to have surpassed them all in terms of the vitriol thrown at them by religious loonies.I ask this because there was a debate on the radio some weeks ago about witchcraft and it was amazing to hear how many christians thought that these books were the work of the devil.Cant imagine J.K.Rowling in cahoots with lucifer...

I have always though had more problems with fundamentalist Christians than any other group. I find their arrogance and intolerance really obscene. I daresay the harmless HP books have got more stick because they are higher profile.
I think it's more of a case of that HP books are about witches and spells and Christians see that as - well not very Christian and away from God.
I think fundamentalists of any kind are dangerous.
On the other hand, I don't think you have to be a christian fundamentalist to dislike the 'occult ' side to HP books - howewer well written and entertaining.

Some people read more (no pun intended) into things than most, instead of seeing it as story and a tool to encourage children to read they just see bad in it. Do they really kid believe that if utter a few weird words they could fly to school on a broom stick. If Rowling is guilty of anything it`s getting kids to use their imagination.
