When loading the van things they have previously loaded don't appear to be in there. Is it some form of a mobile Tardis?

Its not filmed very well is it? Sometimes we are expected to believe they have driven 300 miles only to come back with maybe 2 items. they probably pick up a van load before returning otherwise it wouldn't be financially viable.

But then again, thinking of the prices Drew charges.....

Every time i watch it , I'm always willing the sellers not to accept his offer , because he's getting the items too cheaply - well it feels that way

The same for American pickers
He says to the sellers, now and again, they have good stuff and he'll be back.

If they see what he can sell their items for, even after taking into account the cost of restoration, I doubt they'd let him through their doors again.
