I have these little bugs in my bathroom and am intrigued to find out what they are. They are black, approx 1cm in length and best described as a tear-drop shap i.e. their bodies come to a point. Their bodies are smooth and no legs or any other identifiable features and they move v fast - what are they?!

apart from the colour, what you describe sounds like silverfish( which are a silvery grey), harmless & often spotted in bathrooms....

mmm, they look black on the pics, apparently they don't appear grey until after their 3rd moult....you learn something everyday! :o)

Thanks, except there's definitely no antenna or anything visible, they're completely smooth, although perhaps it just cant be seen because they are so small??
maybe pumpkinpie - you'll have to catch one under a glass & interrogate it!

I would'nt be able to, they freak me out!!
Hi pumpkinpie + Robinia,

Well you can knock me down with a feather!!

We used to have silverfish in and around our bath (when I was very young), and were lead to believe that they ate the plaster etc from the walls...Never saw a black one, always a light silver in colour (probably too shy to come out until they were in their refinery! lol)...They certainly scurried about, and I used to hate them...Think that if you do see a silver grey one pumpkin, you will see the tiny scales with the naked eye (as we did) - it is probably because of the dark colour that these are not so visible..
