Can someone please explain to me why the EUSSR thinks it has any right to demand access to our waters for fishing. On what basis? ok so the French/Spanish fishermen will be annoyed if we stop them hoovering up the sea but that's not basis for claiming a right is it?

Many in Scotland want independence from England, or so it seems
long before the referendum happened.
I havent missed much
//Norway is not a member of the EU and a transition to their status would have been leaving it regardless of your opinion on how satisfactory that would be.//

Adopting the "Norway Option" would be "BRINO". It would be equivalent crossing our name off the list of members only. Rather like leaving a club, being unable to drink in the bar or vote for the committee but still having to comply with the club's rules.

Your definition of leaving ("...and a transition to their status would have been leaving it regardless of your opinion on how satisfactory that would be") does not quite hold water. We "left" the EU officially a year ago. But we are still bound by their legislation and are still making financial contributions. Simply saying we have left or will be leaving does not fulfil the definition of leaving.

Anyway, we're going over a lot of old ground here which has been done to death over the past four years. The UK has left the EU and bar any last minute capitulation by the Government (which would not at all surprise me by the way) we are leaving on terms which will see us trade with the EU on WTO terms. That position will evolve into something more beneficial to both parties only if the EU accepts that we are no longer a supplicant state, subject to the whims and fancies of its Politburo.

Karl: "s it not ironic that the UK is now championing a concept which they fiercely fought against ("it's international waters, we have an undeniable right"), despatched the navy no less (against an unarmed nation, a fellow NATO founding member and ally), and (repeatedly over the years) suffered an ignominious defeat only quite recently ? The balanced, sensible, magnanimous even, and eminently reasonable British are quite astonished at the affront..... " - for those of us that are not in on the anti British wet dream, care to tell us what the ^%$* you are on about?
Oh, TTT, a bit slow with the anti-British bit today. Does the expression Cod Wars mean anything to you ? No, I shouldn't think that historical debacle deserves taking note of, too famously British.....
Question Author
yes but they were not wars.
I posted these two submissions on a tandem thread TTT. They will fit nicely here. P.S No one answered either.

""The same people who are now throwing their hands up in shock, horror, and panic, about 4 extra little boats being deployed to patrol our waters, were mocking our ability to do such a thing a few weeks ago. Make your minds up, are we a hopeless lost cause, and an ineffectual backwater or a massive global naval force for destruction? Bless.""
And ...

""Meanwhile as Britain faces hostility and criticism for trying to protect and preserve it's territorial waters and to sensibly and ecologically manage the Nations natural resources, there is a sudden influx of supertrawlers off the English coast is killing dolphins and causing an unprecedented level of unsustainable fishing, say marine campaigners. Ten factory ships have arrived in the English Channel in the past three weeks, Marine wildlife monitors say the vessels are destroying fish stocks, killing non-target species, harming sustainable fishing communities and destroying marine ecosystems. The sooner we run this gangster mob out of town the better.""

Can someone explain in simple terms what are British waters?
Note ... territorial waters "sovereignty is qualified only by a right of innocent passage—that is, peaceful transit not prejudicial to the good order or security of the coastal state—for merchant vessels of other nations. The right of innocent passage does not apply to submerged submarines or to aircraft, nor does it include a right to fish".
