I know this has been done to death now and the main points have been covered, but there is also the issue of the time taken for a death to be reported. Even though hospital deaths are usually recorded pretty quickly you'll still find that some of those deaths in Sunday's figures would have occurred during the previous week, and sometimes trusts don't submit the data in time.
In the case of deaths outside Care Homes we know the time taken to obtain a death certificate and can easily be 7-14 days.
The bottom line is that those deaths recorded now could relate to infections that occurred maybe 4 weeks ago and they may have caught it from an asymptomatic member of the household/work/carehome who had been infected maybe a week earlier.
