i am driving up to a roundabout in france, there are only 2 roads to exit off. The first is slightly to the right and the other one is directly opposite the road i pull up to the roundabout on. my query is how to explain the first turning off - would it be straight on or right??? i have a photo available if this helps thanks

First exit, slightly right.
You've just explained it. I can picture it perfeectly.
To avoid confusion, it is better to use 1st exit second exit etc.
How can you tell if you've pictured it perfectly ?

Because the description provided enables me to do so. I have a perfect image in my mind with no ambiguity. My image may very well not concur with reality (because I've not been to the scene) but it is perfect enough for me to envisage the likely layout.
Well, this is the image I have in my mind??

That's exactly it, Gizzy.
Simply "First exit" or "second exit"

Remember when explaining to remind the person they drive on the right.
