Morning All,

Sorry to start the day with such a serious question....

But just hearing about threats on Heathrow today got me down a bit.

I just think it's really sad what the World's coming to because of the War - it's ruining everything.

Apparently 18 people have been arrested after there were threats to blow up planes through mid-flight.

Personally, i find it really scary considering the effects of 9/11 and 7/7.

Maybe because i live in London and i'm due to go on holiday at the end of the month is why i'm slightly more concerned.

How you feeling after hearing the news today?

if blair returns from his hols he wont require a passenger plane like we would use , security measures will be put in plave eg the forces .

I probably think it would be safer if he stayed away.

and 4getmenot - ur brave - if i saw other people getting off then i personally wouldve followed.

The thing that causes most people to panic is their own mind games.
Lore, It just looked like youd taken what i said in the wrong context because it was straight after my post. sorry :)

I think that the death penalty should be brought back for things like this, even if just guilty of plotting such mass murders. If they cant go to that length the deport them and their families back to the country that the religion they are fighting for is from. It seems too easy for these extremists to set up home here or in the US and live here whilst planning such horrible acts.
I'm terrified, my man travels back from the USA tomorrow, an internal flight and then New York to Manchester.
I'm trying to reassure myself that it's probably the safest time for him to travel with the heightened security though. I don't think the Americans take security as seriously as we do though, they seem more concerned that a communist might get in the country than a religious terrorist.
But what is the point of inflicting the death penalty when they are prepared to give their lives anyway ? That would give them satisfaction, surely ?
im no expert on this subject but it ismy understanding that a suicide bomber is viewed as a hero if his task has been successful
i think they should be tortuered! the evil bas***
ah but would they be viewed in the same way if they were caught and sentanced to death for instance rather than killed at their own hand along with hundreds of innocent people.
I would rather they were punished for a crime they planned to commit rather than dying with all those others. If they are going to commit suicide for their cause then i dont mind if it makes no difference to them because it saves so many others.
Yeah, Good point - yep, stylinsam,I would prefer they died slowly and painfully rather than instantly with lots of innocents - and I am not a malicious person.
Maybe the Americans are right to keep people chained up like those in Guantanamo. I really don't know.
Just wish we didn't have to have this discussion in the first place - it is now all too close to home.
nat if I'd have got off the train that day then they've won into making people be scared of their own kind. This man was just praying because he was saying his midday prayers. Was scary but you cant avoid every little thing that may be connected to terrorism. Funny thing was after he got off the train an asian got on caryying a big trombone case, me and my mate just looked at eachother and laughed.
aah no worries Red, :o)

The whole situation is a total mess and it's a sad fact that the world in which we live has got to a point where we can't exsist without some people feeling the need to create mass destruction to those who are against what they believe is right.
i'm flying on saturday, eeek, only going to ibiza , but still a wee bit worried !!

lol 4getmenot - i totally understand. If we run away from everyone that doesnt look english with a backpack/trombone case in london - we'd be up $hit creak everyday of our lives!
1st of all stop being scared, when we show fear then the terrorists have won, or at least achieved part of their aim, which is to disrupt our way of life.
I feel confident that the police and security services (of which I was part of) are doing a great job of keeping us safe.
Lets get on with our lives and say to these misguided fools that they cannon beat us, EVER!!!
^^^^^^
cannot

eh?
can not
I'm with 4getmenot & wullie.

There's no point in being scared ~ it's a horrible thing, but when your number is called it is called...if we continue to feel depressed or down because of this then they have won.

Live your life & be happy. Don't let them take that away from us!
You're more likely to be hit by a bus and yet you cross the road mostly everyday dont you.
I'm off to Florida on 12/9, am i scared, am i hell

You Never let terrorist dictate your life, granted its news we don't want to hear, but it seems to be the way of life now, look on the plus side, these people {18} have been watched for something upto 7 months, plus if security was slacking this will keep everyone on their toes now.

we all have a part to play in this, so lets all keep alert and don't be afraid to report anything that looks suspect, especially on out TRANSPORT SYSTEMS
