Hey, I was out alking the other day and i was coming down a steep hill when my knee got this severe shooting pain in it. The next morning the knee was swollen around the knee cap , making it stiff and mobility difficult. I strapped it up about 5 days ago but its still pretty swollen . Would anyone be able to suggest a home remedy or treatment ? Thanks C-jo

hmmm... I definitely think a trip to A+E maybe called for, something thats stays inflamed for this long is not something to take lightly - it maybe that you have done some damage to the ligaments involved in the knee joint, or less likely, that it is infected, either way it can't hurt to let a medic take a look!
straight down to A&E - don't mess around with your knees! I once dslocated my knee cap - really painful and lots of swelling. I thought it would be fine bandageged for a few days, oh no, when I wentt o hospital i was put in plaster from my hip to my ankle for 6 weeks!
Absolutely agree, get to A&E. Coming down a hill you may have damaged your cruciate ligament. 5 days after the event is probably a bit late for ice to be really effective, but you can try it if it's still painful and swollen - bag of frozen peas, stick some oil/butter/vaseline on your knee, leave the frozen peas on there wrapped up in a towel for about 10 mins - no longer or the peas start defrosting.
