I knew both the girl and her mother. She used to play with my son when they were kids. Her mother had numerous mental health issues and I know that her daughter's upbringing was awful (Im in no way blaming her mother, she was ill) but when this story hit my local paper a while back both my son and myself said ''not surprised''.
Its a tragic case for all concerned, both daughter and mother, but why as a society does it ever get to this? Where are social services when needed?
I can fully understand this girl been pushed over the edge by a seriously mentally ill mother. I can also understand the struggles that her mother endured by her illnesses.
I cant understand why things like this esculate to the point that they have.

//Social services are damned when they do and when they don’t!//
Not just social services, where were the mental health 'professionals' over the years? This totally could have been prevented with some support from the system for both mother and daughter.
Very sad case and, as usual, it is always someone else's fault.
The problem is that people don't welcome intervention. You are a mentally ill parent with a child the same age. Given how you feel about authority can u honestly say YOU would have engaged?

Bednobs, Im not mentally ill, Ive suffered with depression which is slightly different. This girls mother was schizophrenic, THATS mentally ill. And to answer your question, yes, I would have welcomed any support offered to me.

//Given how you feel about authority//
Yes, I do have issues with certain 'authorities'. But I wasn't talking about authorities, I was talking about support.
You've been sectioned against your will twice and lately begged to be admitted to a mental hospital to prevent you killing yourself. Didn't you also threaten your mum with a knife? Not that it's a competition but what I'm saying is that it might be difficult for you to get some perspective as it's close to home
There are lots of people who wouldn't see ss as support in the way you seem to

//You've been sectioned against your will twice and lately begged to be admitted to a mental hospital to prevent you killing yourself//
That's the irony of it all. Ive been sectioned in the past when all I needed was a bit of support and then last year when I was suffering from suicidal thoughts I had to BEG to be admitted to hospital for some treatment before I did myself in.
//Didn't you also threaten your mum with a knife? //
Where the hell did you get THAT from. I would never threaten my mother.
