My son is 7 1/2 months old and is on Aptamil Extra formula. I was wondering if I should put him on the follow-on milk which is designed for babies older than 6 months. He eats a fair amount of solids and about 3 x 9oz bottles of milk day. Any advice appreciated.

my son stayed on aptimil extra til he was 10 months then went onto cow's milk on the advice from my health visiter.
i think you should go to your health visiter and ask their advice they will tell you what is best for your son xXx
I spent a fortune on that follow on milk (it's not covered by milk tokens) because, like you obviously, I wanted to give my son the best start I could and my health visitor said it was a waste of money. h Once he is about a year old he will be old enough to be on normal cows milk now, give him full fat though.
to save you any confusion would you discuss with health visitor ?
Id discuss this with my Health visitor or other mothers myself.

I was advised that follow on milk is not needed if child has a good diet and standard formula until 12 months.

I was also told that it contained high levels of sugar which i didnt want my son to have.

He has just changed to cows milk as he is 12 months old and he had problem making the change. He gets all the nutrients he needs from a balanced diet as well.
