Why dies my mum's 6 month old washing machine smell all damp and musty inside? Is there anything she can do to make it go?

have you cleaned out the filter? all the fibres caught in there may be going mouldy.
empty that then put the machine on a quick hot cycle, with some powder etc in, but empty, this will give it a good rinse through.

if its still there, you could try a spray bottle of bleach and blitz the interior - but be sure to do a empty cycle before use - otherwise you may get bleach patches on your clothes

another thing could be the door seal - sometime icky stuff collects there in the folds - give that a wipe over

thanks joko!
This often happens because tidy folk carefully close the door when theyve taken the washing out, especially if its in the middle of a busy kitchen. Most manufacturers advise you to leave the door open for a bit to dry the drum out and this will help your Mum stop the smell reappearing. 10 mins each time will help.
leave the door slightly open after each wash.
