Our small row of about 8 houses is constanty blasted by extremely noisy amplified music in a local garden. The resident couldn't care less and is abusive when approached. The police are not interested and it has been taken up by a neighbour with the local council but we don't hold out much hope. Dies any know the law on limits of noise and electrically amplified musivc in a residential garden?

get in touch with environmental health - go on the website of your local council and they will probably have a section telling you what to do
Do as Kazza says, the local council wiil deal with nuisance Noise.
This is legally a form of pollution. Your best hope is as above, your local Environmental Health Officer.

Thank you both for your replies and the local authority has already been approached but does anyone know what the legal limit is in dbs?
It doesn't really work like that. It falls under the general heading of nuisance. Make two or three recordings of the noise, log time and date, get as many people as you can to sign your log and then go along to your Environmental Health Officer and request action. Environmental Health must have evidence in this form before they can act. Noise over 90 dbs is harmful, but it does not have to reach anywhere near this level to be a nuisance. In any event, taking meter readings for evidence is a very tricky subject.

Thank you for al your answers. The necessary action is now underway. Fortunately rain was a good solution but cannot be relied upon.
