Avast Blocking My External Hard Drive

My Avast demanded to be updated yesterday, so I did. Now when I plug my external hard drive in (a little Maxell portable) nothing comes up and I can't back things up. I assume these two events are connected as there was no trouble till today.

Is there any way to tell Avast to permit it? Or of restoring the earlier Avast? (Though I assume the latter would be risky.)

(Please don't advise installing MSE instead as I had the same trouble with it in the past; that's why I installed Avast in the first place.)

I use up-to-date Avast on W8.1 and don't have this problem. If you right-click the Avast icon in the task tray you'll find the 'Avast Shield Controls' where you can disable it for a period - see if the drive is recognised when Avast is disabled. I suspect it won't make a difference.

Not working I give up
Only one black pair but also a beige pair the same which for some reason won't upload!!
Roger Moore has died.
nice shoes Neti. Yes RIP Rog, the end of an era.
I met a useful man today. He came round to move a large piece of furniture for me. chatted to him, he does small removals but also holds a waste disposal licence and takes it away in a truck so no skip which is helpful as its awkward having one here. Sis arrives tonight, for once I am ready ahead of time! Loo still not fixed, but I think I know where the blockage is and also fairly sure its leaves and mud not ermmm effluent. Job for thursday as Sis has hair appointment tomorrow. Mine is still growing and I have found a decent shampoo for it, costs an arm and a leg (Aveda) but I am worth it.
Evening all
Another warm day but we didn't have much sunshine until late afternoon.Sad day too with that awful attack in Manchester.Words fail me.
Yes RIP Roger .I loved Ivanhoe and The Saint .
That Aveda shampoo is good Woofy,I think the one I had,had rosemary in it.I'm using TiGi atm though which my hairdresser recommended.I always used to buy cheap bogof shampoo but since having highlights and this high maintenance cut I've gone for a more expensive one and it is worth it .
Hope you're all ok .KBO.
Nice shoes btw Neti.Funnily enough I've just bought some new shoes .....
garden clogs:)

bah, I think I have a cold, and I want to make sure everyone knows how rotten I feel. My colds go away after three days, except the coughing, which can go on more than a month.
Morning all. Poor jno I feel for you, how is the happy tooth? My jaw is still swollen and painful.
Just been chatting to cousin in Oz she sent photos of sister's and says they still argue over there!

tooth is still sore but not infected (I hope), cold has stopped live streaming and started clogging, and I don't know why colds give me a somewhat upset stomach but they do. It is quite a nice day out there but I am being held prisoner by my germs.
Hello all
Lovely sunny day.
Sorry to hear you don't feel too good Jno.Colds are bad enough in the winter but seem worse in the warm weather. I haven't had a full blown snorter for ages (touches all wood in the vicinity of my computer),must be the sea air that keeps them at bay.Hope you soon feel better.
Nothing doing here.Just poodling about in the garden ,more poodling than doing anything constructive. I'm hoping a man may come to mow my meadow at the weekend.

Evening all. Yes I still have a painful jaw, still popping ibruprofen and I have a cold spray from a sports shop which helps enomously. But it is very cold.
Has anyone used nylon sewing thread, what a bind! Gets all knotted and then you can't see the damned thing. I had run out of white cotton but won't use it again.
I am getting a lovely tan using creams, too hot for outside until pool is up and running.
Hope you are all ok.
Morning all
Another lovely sunny day.
Hope the cold, the teeth and the tan are improving.I've caught the sun out in the garden.Luckily I'm a browner not a burner .
Lol Neti ,any sewing thread knots for me .I only have to thread a needle and a knot appears as if by magic :)
Woofy ..I have emailed you about tortoises. There was an interesting thing about them on the One Show last night.
Good morning. What a lovely day we have here. I am wearing baggy striped ( white, green yellow and blue) pants and a blue top. Most unlike me. Am a tad unsure but no one has yet said I look like a clown in PJs. I even have hooped earrings on. yes tan is coming on exceedingly will need a new bottle soon. My tanning MIT disintegrate but. O one sells them here so I've had to sew it!! Oh the trials of living in the 3rd world. Dentist tomorrow for stitches out and hopefully she can fit a cheap bridge am not paying a fortune at my age. My mum did and died soon after. I should have kept her teeth!
hello all Shaney thank you for the email, haven’t had a chance to look at it yet. Toilet drain belched you know wnebhat all over the front drive today so I had to get the nice man out from dyno rod. He finally sorted it after a long long hot afternoon. Luckily Sis was here to take care of the dogs. All sorted now but I never want to do that again.
Oh gawd Woofy .I'm glad it's sorted for you .The Dynorod people are worth their weight in gold.We had similar once when it was so blocked the manhole cover lifted and there was muck (to put it politely) all over the patio. They've also unblocked the side drain several times.Luckily we're covered for it on our insurance .
We get a lot of problems with drains and are not alone with it round here. The water company don't clean the gullies and it backs up and we rarely see the council wagon coming round to clear and pump out the gutters. I go through gallons of Jeyes fluid and soda crystals .
I think all the drains here must have been put in by the Romans:)
It's a muggy night but sleep tight .
Good morning all.
Am off to dentist to have stiches removed and to discuss having a bridge or something like the Severn bridge as have many missing teeth. I'd do well on Jeremy Kyle!
Have a good day all of you
Back again. Well the thing she showed me for upper teeth was like some medieval torture instrument, lots of metal in the roof of the mouth, I said no definitely not. She looked surprised. So she can't do a bottom bridge unless I have a root canal on last molar, so I said no again, *** that, so she is going to try to put two false ones in on a normal plate so at least I won't be gappy. I'm going to ask if she can pop just one in Upper jaw so there is no gap, and don't worry about the rest that cannot be seen.
....so I treated myself to a summer dress. Its white cotton, with big lilac flowers splodged, it's loose, no idea if I'll ever wear it, but am going to wear knee length dresses this summer as legs are ok so may as well. Tan is coming on a treat!
Where is Lady Robi of Derby? Hope she is ok.
Jno how's the toof, and the cold.
Good afternoon...not sure where all this Lady stuff has come from. :) I wish I was and then I wouldn't have to slog away in the garden. It's been fabulous weather and it ain't 'alf made me ache and bloated but I've soldiered on. The headaches have eased to an occasional brief one, I've had an annoying cough but have taken anti-h's this past couple of days and it's really helped.

Our local dyno rod guy is a good looking cheerful young man. He said he's always happy and doesn't mind the job at all. I hope they're well paid.

Hope you're all ok, teeth or no teeth, keep smiling. The news has been so terrible, how can anyone be so evil?

went out to Chiswick House this afternoon, lovely to see it in the sun, people basking in the grounds; not so many inside but in the annals of stateleigh homes it's quite a small one. A friend of the builder said it was too small to live in and too big to hang on your watch chain.
