Why Is It The Norm To Serve Frites, Mushrooms And Tomatoes With A Steak?

Why?

And add insult to injury some venues want you to lash a good few quid for an accompanying sauce.

Trip to the butcher is on the cards but shrooms and toms will be off the menu.

If/when serving a steak what do you serve on the side? Am I just weird?

In my opinion there's no point choosing steak in a restaurant when it's so easy to do at home - then you know you can cook it exactly how you like it and have whatever accompaniments you prefer.

Mazie, if I see steak, frites and bearnaise sauce I start champing at the bit!

When at home the veg varies according to season and the sauce to mood.....not to mention what needs using up from the nether regions of the fridge.

I still have nightmares about my grandmothers cooked to death steak served with lukewarm, lumpy mash. I assume there were vegetables served but I must have cast them from my mind!
