Clear ice cubes

how do i make ice cubes clear like you get in a pub, mine always come out cloudy, is it something ti do with hard or soft water. i've heard about boiling the water but i'm sure none of the pubs would go to this just to have them clear.

Amazing! i was going to guess that it was because they froze faster in big industrial freezers -- but no, it's almost the opposite.. Not flash frozen all at once, but gradually in layers. Thanks Ethel!
